William “Bill” Gilbert, 78, of Radcliff, KY passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Carl M. Brashear Radcliff Veterans Center.
Mr. Gilbert was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Army. Mr. Gilbert continued to serve his community through his work as a civil engineer at the University of Kentucky until his retirement in 2014. One of Mr. Gilbert's most notable professional achievements was the development of a pivotal software program alongside Dr. Don J. Wood. This software revolutionized the distribution of water to county residents across several county governments.
Outside of his professional life, Bill was an enthusiastic golfer, finding joy and camaraderie on the green. Furthermore, as a proud Honor Flight Kentucky veteran, he carried with him the pride of those who served, cherishing the opportunity to connect with fellow servicemen and women through this honorable program. Bill Gilbert was also a committed mason, upholding the values of brotherhood, truth, and charity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Thelma Gilbert; three siblings, Jerry Gilbert, Jeanie Riddle, Larry Gilbert, Lynne Sims.
Survivors include three siblings, David E. Gilbert, Patricia Sharkey, Barbara Skees (Norbert); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, Monday, March 9, 2026 at Chism Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Gilbert will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 9, 2026 at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home. A committal service with military honors will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
